World War Z chapter 4: The Great Panic
The chapter the Great Panic is really about how people are coming to terms with what is happening and their experience in the Great Panic. The part the stood out to me the most was how people were running to the coast to get on the boats and even swimming to get to them; and the people that swam got pulled under by the zombies the boats were throwing overboard. I cringe at the thought that because Zombies don't need air to breathe, they can literally just walk along the bottom and then, eventually, walk onto any land.

The Great Panic
This chapter is ultimately about how people begin to deal with the realization that zombies are real. People have been in denial before this so it comes as quite a shock. One part that stood out to me was the part about people swimming out to get to boats and being pulled under by zombies. Imagine how scary this would be. Risking your life to try to save it. And the fact that people were taking money for others to ride in their boats. Did they really think money was still going to matter?
The Great Panic
In this chapter, it talks about how everyone is starting to truly realize what is happening in the world around them, a zombie apocalypse and it talks about the great panic that swarmed through everyone's minds. They finally accepted the fact of a zombie apocalypse after a news story confirmed it was real. It talked about the extremes that were happening around the world because of the zombie infection. It talks about how no one is prepared for something like this, except Israel of course who used their intel wisely. The part that stood out to me was the Russian platoon killing the little girl zombie. It showed that people were still seeing zombies as humans, which would get you killed. They didn't want to let go of their family, friends, or the rest of what made them human,
World War Z: The Great Panic
Up until this point, many were still in denial over the zombie threat. In "The Great Panic," the chapter describes the events that happened in the aftermath of a news story confirming the existence of the outbreak of the zombie plague. In this chapter you see some of the extreme situations people are pushed into. In Russia, members of an army unit were forced to decide which member out of ten members was to be killed as a punishment for rebelling against having to hunt down zombies. There was also a scene where a girl named Sharon recalls when her mother tried to strangle her. Another extreme situation was when people tried to flee to the sea and had outbreaks among the passengers, there was one man who desperately swam through zombie infested waters in order to reach a boat. The final event of the chapter was the battle between the U.S military and the zombies that took place in Yonkers. What was meant to be a shining victory intended to restore the nation's morale; ended up becoming a complete disaster. This was due in part to the use of weapons which were ineffective against zombies. The part that stood out to me was when Sharon's mother tried to kill her because killing is mostly seen as an act of cruelty and inhumanity. However, in this case it was an act out of love, as the mother was trying to prevent Sharon from becoming infected and reanimated as a zombie.
World War Z: Chapters 1-3
In chapters 1-3, it starts by talking about how China's population has taken a major death toll of about 34,950,000 people. It starts with a doctor in China, who had found "patient zero," he was tied up in a room with skin gone from being bounded and yet no blood, he had no pulse and his skin was cold and grey. The doctor realizes what it is and is jailed so he can not tell anyone about it, but the infection had already been spread outside of the country. Chapters 1-3 are interviews about what people were doing when they first saw it happen around the world, including Israel building a fort with high walls, America buying Phalanx and more.
The Great Panic
Although this whole chapter is interesting, I think it is the first part that catches my attention the most. This takes place in Memphis, Tennessee. The interviewer talks to Gavin Blaire who is a pilot during the Great Panic. Gavin explains what its like to see a bird's eye view of humans trying to escape zombies. the visuals reminded me of something you would see while evacuating from a natural disaster such as a hurricane. Cars are bumper to bumper down highway 80. Some people have gotten out of their cars and are running faster than the traffic is moving. Gavin notices how much is being left behind, even expensive things like a grand piano. This scene relates to the rest of the book because you start to see how people start to drop everything and run away from the zombies. This is one of the first clearly unsuccessful plans in trying to escape the walking dead. He sees zombies actually grabbing people from their cars or getting in the cars to get humans. They have no way of escape. The cars are so tightly packed that some people can't even open their doors to run away.
If I was in this situation I would be terrified! I don't think I would use a car to get away because it seems inefficient when everyone else is doing the same thing. Something's I noticed is that this shows that a lot of the things in our world are materialistic. Luckily, people were leaving behind what might weigh them down in order to reach safety. I wonder if people were leaving behind other people if the could run faster or had bigger cars than others. Would some be ready to betray other's to save themselves? I think this ties in with the class because people have a tendency to run away from their problems. This was a perfect example of human nature. I think its important to see how people react in crazy, unexpected situations like that.

The Great Panic
This specific chapter goes into detail about what it is really like when people realize what is truly going on and people "panic". Throughout poor attempts to escape the inescapable we learn that there is no true escape. The chapter goes into how there is almost no defense against the zombies. The part that sticks out the most is the very beginning when he was talking about how everyone was on I-80 at an attempt to escape and many people were trapped in a swarm of zombies and how this created more panic and only made it worse. It sets up how people act during this time. it shows us the current state of people and there decision making process. It is important to the book because it shows us how the general public reacted to zombies and how the zombies tend to act towards humans.
World War Z: The Great Panic
This chapter was primarily about what was going on in peoples lives after the Zombie Apocalypse hit. People were in fact at great panic, trying to leave their state and escape the terror, only to find out it's everywhere. Some places, like Greenland aren't as infested as most, so they consider themselves lucky. People were killing one another, jealous if someone had more protection than you(Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies Federation). Streets were destroyed and everyone was acting like animals, specifically described as "monkeys." A part that stuck out to me, was on pages 96 and 97. The man said that the zombies were invincible, only dying if shot in the head; so the bombs that were meant to cause them to burst like balloons, actually didn't effect them at all like they would a normal human being.
The Great Panic
This chapter lets the reader see what it was like when people around the world finally realized that the apocalypse was really happening. Everyone panicked and, in the chaos, did anything they could to protect what was their's. People tried escaping to other states or countries, only to find out there was no escape. A soldier talked about how even the military's strongest weapons and fighting tactics had no effect on the zombies, and how horrifying it was to get down to their last defense and still be unable to protect themselves, let alone win or do much damage at all. Another man told about his experience attempting to flee his country aboard a boat, watching people drown, reanimate underwater, and pull another person under. No one was prepared to deal with something this major, which caused the Great Panic.
The Great Panic
This chapter basically talks about what people are doing after they realize the Zombie Apocalypse is real. It really makes me picture the movie 28 Days Later, because the movie involved an infectious disease that people spread to one another as well. It tells about the struggles people are going to to find safety, what is happening to some of the families that have been infected, and all the chaos this has caused. People are running out to sea to reach boats to flee, family members are killing other members without knowing, and it's all a huge panic as the title suggests. The part that stuck out to me the most is the balloon bombs that were created. It's crazy that these bombs had no affect on the zombies because the only kill shot for them are their heads. If anyone else were to be near one of them, it game over.

Violence in the Media
Violence in Video Games
The focus of this article was how the aggression and violence in video games was connected to violence in real life. The article basically stated how parents need to use the rating system that was designed to place each video game in its appropriate age group. And how parents should know the story of the video game before they let their children play it. There has been some studies that has shown that the violence in these video games are related to the violence that's happening in the real world.
Violence in Movies:
This Article was about Harvey Weinstien and how he wanted to put a end to violent movies because even though their is no actual study showing that violence and movie violence were connected he feels as if violence can be influence by it. Even though he was in the film business and helped Tarentino with his career he didn't carethatt people would respond back with negative comments.
Violence in Music
This article was about Marilyn Manson and his opinion on how he felt when people was saying how his music influenced the teens who shot up Columbine High School. the teens didnt even listen to Marilyn Manson and he felt as if they just found someone who was similar to the music he listen to and just had to blame someone. Reporters was saying that the teens were dressed as him but they werent. Marilyn also stated that by putting those murderers on magazine covers only gave them power by letting them become a kind of role model to children who are a little off.

Notes over World War Z class discussion
Key
Q? – question
A: - answer
SN: - side note
Q? How is the book set up?
A: A bunch of
interviews from a guy going around collecting information about what happened
from all the surviving important people (12 years later).
Q? How did the book start out?
A: The UN military
branch sends out the guy to go and collect all of the information.
Q? How did the outbreak happen?
A: A doctor visits
a village in China
and sees a bunch of sick people and a child culprit. He calls his friend to ask
what’s going on, and his friend asks of he’s armed. The doctor says no. the
doctor, freaked out by his friends reaction calls his daughter to say goodbye. The
military shows up, kills all of the infected, and arrests the doctor and
everybody who isn’t infected.
Q? Why is this important?
A: China is trying
to keep the infection a secret, and succeeds for a couple of years. It shows
how china is trying to deal with it without causing panic about it.
Q? What stands out as important?
A: The doctor who
makes a placebo drug.
Q? Why is this important/a problem?
A: It gave
everybody hope, but didn’t do anything to help the actual problem.
SN: He’s super
rude about it.
Q? Page 56-57, why did he say that?
A: He is justifying
why he did it, and how it’s not his problem
Q? What interested you the most?
A: Black-market
organs (pg. 21-28).
Q? What’s going on and why is it a big deal?
A: They have to
find a special heart and turn towards the black-market, and the patient gets
infected. This seems to be how the outbreak spread across the world.
Q? What else seemed important in today’s readings?
A: How Israel stepped
up to protect itself against the zombies.
SN: They built a
wall and invited the Jews and people of Palestinian descent inside for safety.
Q? How did Israel
know to do this?
A: Some people get
an email, saw all of the warning signs and took action.
Q? What’s going on in the paragraph?
A: They’ve been “burned”
before for not listening to warning signs. So when they see the sign/hear about
something absolutely ridiculous, like walking corpses, they don’t risk it and
immediately take action and investigate.
Q? Why is the report so crucial?
A: It’s all of the
evidence of the zombies being real and they share it with everybody.
Q? What does America
do about the report?
A: They ignore it
and think its crazy, as does everybody else who gets it.
SN: I found it interesting that the son fought against
safety.
Q? Why did he fight?
A: Because he
thought it was like a prison, and he grew up with believing that the Jews were
their (Palestinians) mortal enemies.
Q? What happens with all of the fighting/civil war in Israel ?
A: The Rebels fight
back.

World War Z Chapters 1-3
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War is about the interviews done by survivors of a plague. The plague stated in China from a little boy who had be bitten from playing around in his village. The doctor that was interviewed, Dr. Kwang, told us how the boy at just seemed so lifeless at first. Then after you thought everything was okay, they boy broke out of his restraints and started going crazy. The plague spread over the whole world and caused people to take immediate action to seek for any shelters. The plague was believed to be rabies that first came from Africa and spread to other parts in the world. The book seems to be all about the interviews of these survivors and the horrible experiences they have had because of it. Losing lost ones, homes, and sanity all because of these horrific creature torturing them.
The part that probably stood out the most to me was what I mentioned above about the boy. I couldn't even begin to describe how I would act if I was in the doctor's shoes. He talked about the skin looked gray and there seemed to be no life in the little boy at all. Also, let's stop and talk about how it's a young boy at that. I know I'm young but just to think if that was a kid I knew seeing him like that would crush me. It only got worse when the boy turned out to be infected and tried attacking the doctor. It's so insane how this author has grabbed my attention and I'm even more intrigued about zombies now. I can honestly saw I'm ready for what's going to happen next.

World War Z: Chapters 1-3
The Introduction first introduced the interviewer, who was commissioned with the task of of writing a report on "The Zombie War," and instead decided to write a book composed of interviews from those who had lived through the ordeal. The chapter "Warnings," describes the origins of the zombie war; beginning with how the first case of the outbreak was found in China in a boy who had been bitten while treasure hunting. The chapter goes on to describe the subtle hints of a zombie outbreak from people worldwide and the steps that Israel took to prevent the outbreak from getting through their borders. In the last chapter it becomes known that an anti rabies drug was produced and marketed as being able to to protect people from getting infected despite having no such capabilities. This caused the masses to be subdued and to not take the zombie war as seriously as they should have. This also ties into the section that stood out to me the most. With a zombie outbreak underway, Breck Scott only had one thing on his mind; profit. It is fascinating to know that even in such an extreme situation there is always someone who will take advantage of people's fears.
Volume 1
I'm actually really excited to read the rest after I finished with volume one. I know zombies aren't real, at least not that we know of but some fantasy is great to me. I like how the author really tries to make you understand how he feels about it and he makes the reading more interesting to stay hooked. The thing that really stood out the most to me is how the guy lost his entire family. This book so far shows how much everyone is helping out to stay together and survive. It seems like that's going to happen throughout the book, so whoever decides to stray off is probably going to be the ones to go. This part stuck out to me so much because before reading it, I had a family member that just recently passed away. Seeing how caring everyone was in the book and how they needed to stay together like a family reminded me of my own family.
World War Z: Chapters 1-3
World War Z, by Max Brooks, starts off with a major deficit to china's population. The books starts with an accounts of Doctor in China who visits a young boy who was bitten and there arises the dilemma of the disease, it is thought it be rabies. a young boy, patient zero, was bit at a village in china. This is where the first account of "zombie" comes to our attention. The doctor recalls his accounts and in the end of chapter one is jailed and upon his escape finds the disease has escaped China's borders. The Book continues to interview others from different places around the world to have view on their stories.
The part in the book that stood out the most for me was the part where he went into deep detail about patient zero and described his condition and his "mental state" it stood out because he described is vividly and made me really have an image in my head.

World War Z chapters 1-3
In the chapters 1-3 of World War Z, by Max Brooks, has a big underlining question of if it's rabies, or really something else. The disease that started in China from a little boy who said to have gotten bitten while diving for treasure in his old village, has now spread around the world and is having people flee to seek shelter. In the book, it is structured like an interview, talking to different people and what they went through while the outbreak was happening.
There were two parts that stuck out to me the most, one of them being when Israel set up their fortress and people were flocking to it, it didn't raise a big enough commotion from the other nations; they just thought of it as they're crazy. The United States even had a big discussion about it, even asked what if they were right, but, to them, the whole idea of "walking corpses" was a crazy notion, and that's why they were unprepared to the whole outbreak. The second thing that stood out to me was how nobody really knew about the Warmbrunn-Knight report except after the Great Panic. People may have heard the name, but never knew the contents, except Israel, which is why they set up the confinement. Everybody was so unprepared for not knowing the report, the the entire world paid for it with the lives of thousands.
World War Z chapters 1-3
World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie war is a book full of interviews from survivors of the plague. It started in China and moved across the world. People believed it was rabies. They were terrified, and rightly so because these "sick" people were breaking into homes and killing anyone they came across. Something that stood out to me was the man who created the cure for rabies, Phalanx, telling people they wouldn't have to worry if they bought it because it would prevent them from getting rabies. He was so proud of himself for his creation because he made so much money off of it, and he didn't really have to lie; Phalanx could prevent rabies, just not the plague they were facing. This stood out to me the most because of how uncaring he seemed and how proud he was, especially considering the state of panic the world was in at the time.

World War Z Ch. 1-3
Reading the first parts of World War Z was confusing but insightful. It gave it a realistic feel with the introduction being about an interviewer tasked with writing about "The Zombie War." When his work is deemed to emotional and biased, he decides to write a book instead. One could compare his timing of the book to post 9/11. How would anyone know it was too soon to talk about such events?
He starts by interviewing a doctor from China named Dr. Kwang, who tells the interviewer that the first outbreak he saw was in a village called New Dachang. He claimed he met "patient zero" there. It was a young boy who looked dead, but was violent and thrashed through his restraints. The doctor found out the boy went out with his father and came back with a bite. The boy seemed to infect other villagers so the village was put on lock down. At the end of the chapter it is revealed that the doctor was imprisoned without charges & escaped from prison, but it was too late. The outbreak had spread. It always amazes me in story lines similar to this that nobody seems to listen to warning or notice that there is something seriously wrong and dangerous going on.
The interviewer lands in America and speaks with CIA agent Bob Archer, where he learns the CIA is not how the average American person thinks of them. They knew China was hiding something and thought they were soon about to declare war on the U.S... little did they know the situation was much more grave.
World War Z first 3 chapters
When I first began to read this book, I was very confused on the perspective of the author. Once I realized the unnamed interviewer is the main perspective of the book, it made a ton more sense! The book is about this man who is commissioned to write a report on the Zombie Wars. He travels the world hearing different people's personal experiences of this war, its beginning and take off. When he turns in his findings, his boss finds its too emotional so he takes out the "human factor" of the book. You start to learn how what they believed was "African rabies" crossed the world through various modes of transmission including refugees, black market organs, and human trafficking. Every person's story is so intriguing. Some have truly horrific experiences while others are just mad at the world for the whole epidemic.
I don't know if I could pick one favorite part of the book so far. I think the really graphic parts are more interesting because I can visualize what is happening like I am in their shoes. Right off the beginning I could feel the uneasiness of the doctor who found the zombie child. I would be so freaked if I saw something so lifeless still moving. You could really hear the arm snap off even though I was just reading. I appreciate the writer's creativity. The character from Bethlehem, Palestine had a connecting feel, as well. When his father lashed out at him for trying to leave the family I could feel the rage between the two. I would be so scared to be put in a brand new situation where you're constantly checked and praying you make it through the dog interrogation. When the interviewer talked to the guy from Antarctica I was almost mad at the man. He was so inconsiderate of the human race's well being! How could he not blame himself for selling a fake vaccine that he knew would make no difference? It was shocking to think that people in real life could do that. What if the flu vaccine just a sense of security? food for thought

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War Ch. 1-3
Was it Rabies? Or was it something else? What could have caused such a terrible, fearful outbreak? A plague that first began in China, was suddenly spreading throughout the world. These things breaking into peoples homes, attacking one another, without any sense they're doing it, or who they're doing it to. In this book, Max Brooks interviewed a few important people on what exactly happened in these times, who did it truly effect, and what was the government doing to stop it?
One part that stuck out to me specifically was the placebos that were created for the sole purpose of providing hope for everyone. Phalanx. Proud of himself for the millions of dollars he was making, Mister Scotts story stuck out to me the most. He had very little care in the matter, all he cared about was the money. This was very weird to me considering what was going on at the time...how was he so okay with it? Once I get further into this book, I hope to find some answer to this question. Maybe the situation wasn't as big of a deal then it seems. Although that's hard to believe considering in the last section of the chapter I learn that a man named Tim and his wife and kids were so rudely interrupted on a nice day by these walkers; breaking into their home, pulling children's hair, and flat out attacking them, forcing them to leave and forget everything behind.

Walking dead
One of the things that stood out was when Rick wokes up and wondering around in the hospital. He was calling for help but no one to answer him. It also amazed me the kindness of the people he meet when he came out of the hospital and get to his home. Other that stood out to me was when shane and Rick were fighting in the wood and shane get aggravated planed to shoot Rick but someone else appear and kill shane .There is alot of things that stood out to me in this book .

Lawrence Kutner (shake head ) That is not true, it’s clear that the big fears bandied about in the

Me: Good and great opinion from the three of you. Craig what do think about what Lawrence
Said and you mention about aggressive behavior , can you explain more on that?
Craig: Sure, exposing children and youth to violent visual media in physical aggressive
Against another person. By physical I mean behavior that is intended to harm another
Person physically , such as hitting with a first or some object. A single belief exposure
To violent media can increase aggressive in the immediate situation. Repeated exposure leads

To general increase in aggressive over time. This relation between media violence and
Aggressive behavior is causal.
Me: Well this is where we will stop for this evening, I agree with all of you in one way
Or the other. I feel like we could agree on what we allow our children and youth should
Watch or the kind of video games they play. I want to thank all of you for coming to the
Show this evening . I hope to meet with you anytime we need to do more of this debate!
Thank you all for your participation.

Articles
The article on Video games gives a vivid description on how video game violence influences real life aggression. Using large groups of data from over 20 years on the effects of video games, Gentile and Anderson cover a range of examples and ideas about the topic of violence, from the history of violence in video games, to studies that have been conducted on the matter.
Marilyn Manson states that his music could not been responsible for the columbine shootings. He is furious with the media for publicizing people responsible for such cases of horror, like the Columbine shooters and is also mad for media trying to place the blame on musicians and movies for the behaviors of these individuals. He even states that the shooters were not actually fans of his music, yet the media still blamed him.
Andrew O'Hehir depicts the relationship between movie violence and real violence. He celebrates Weinstein for standing out. Violence has gone down in this country, as Andrew states, even when violence in media is at its peak. O'Hehir says weary to those jumping to conclusions, because it's hard to know what is causing these people to act out in such hatred.
Walking dead responce
One of the big things that stood out to me was,in the beginning when Rick was wondering around his old house then was struck in the head. It was surprising to me that the kindness of the people he met after they had nothing and had given him shelter and protection and used their resources to transport him to the old police station. they could have held him hostage or even killed him, yet they let him in and accepted him. It shown me that even in a world gone to Hell, you can still find kindness in peoples hearts.
Reaction To The Walking Dead: Vol 1 Days Gone Bye
The moment that stood out to me is when Shane showed his true intentions and how he wished Rick was dead. Rick chased after Shane to figure out what was wrong. Shane started to vent about how Rick ruined everything. Shane then points his gun at Rick, ready to pull the trigger, until out of nowhere Carl shoots Shane in the neck. It stood out to me as interesting because while most people will believe that the walkers, or zombies, are the enemies. The biggest enemy of them all is the living people: old friends, co-workers, neighbors. It truly shows how messed up can be.
Violence in Media
Video Game Violence:
This article gives a detailed argument that video game violence influences real life aggression. Using copious amounts of data from the last 20 years on the effects of video games, Gentile and Anderson cover a scope of topics in their 16 page paper, from the history of violence in video games, to a description of the different studies that have been conducted, to the public policy options to deal with what they believe is a causal relationship between violent video games and aggression.
Columbine:
In this article, Marilyn Manson boldly refutes claims that his music, or any media may have been responsible for the columbine shootings. He attacks the media for celebrating and publicizing criminals like the Columbine shooters and for scapegoating musicians and movies for the behaviors of these individuals. Strengthening his argument by pointing out that the shooters were not actually fans of his and that the messages of his songs have been misinterpreted by the media, Manson defends himself and attacks the media industry that put him in the cross hairs in the first place.
Movie Violence:
In the wake of Harvey Weinstein announcing that he would no longer make violent movies, Andrew
O'Hehir explores the complicated relationship between movie violence and real violence. He applauds Weinstein for taking a stand but points out that there is not conclusive evidence of the connection. Overall violence is down in this country, he points out, in a time when violent media is at it's most prevalent. O'Hehir urges caution in jumping to either side of this issue because it's just so hard to know what is influencing mass shootings.

Summary on Whose Fault is it?
Whose Fault is it? Marilyn Mansion speaks out how sad it is to tink that the first people on earth neede no books, movies, games or music to inspire cold blooded murder. The article also mention about Bible as literature or as the word of whtaever God may be, and how Christianity has given us an image of death, and sexuality that we have based on our cultural believe. Marilyn Mansion mention that a lot of people forget or never reealize how she started her band as a criticism of these very issuea of despair and hypocrisy. Article said Marilyn never celebrated the sad fact that America puts killers on the cornerr of time image giving them as much notoricty as our favorite movies starts.
Article mention man's greatest fears is chaos. it was unthinkable that these kids did not have a simple black and white reason for their actions, in the artticle conclusion, Marilyn Mansion said The America we live in, and she always tried to show people that the devil we blame our atrocities on is really just each one of us. So don't expect the end of the world to come one day out of the ble- it's been happpening everyday for a long time.
The Walking Dead: Volume 1
A part that stood out to me was when Shane and Rick were in the woods fighting. When Shane got aggravated, he pulled his gun on Rick, planning to kill him. Carl appears and kills Shane to save his father, even though Shane had protected Carl and his mother and had been able to act as a father figure to Carl when they thought that Rick was dead. This is significant because it shows how quickly a person can resort to violence if their well-being, or the well-being of someone they care about, is threatened.
Violence in the Media
Violent Video Games: The focus of this article is on violent video games and how they affect aggression and violence in society. The article states that it's very important to understand the ratings on video games, especially for parents of young children who play them. It is also important for parents to know what exactly is going on in the actual game before they let their child play it, because the ratings or description on the box may not always cover everything within the game. Some studies have shown evidence that there may be a link between violence in video games and real world violence, but it can also be attested to being in a bad home situation.
Movie Violence: In an interview on CNN, Harvey Weinstein declared a permanent end to producing violent movies. Despite having made so many in the past and helping Quentin Tarantino get his career started. Weinstein, being in the independent film business, is able to state his beliefs without having to fear negative response, says that social scientists have not connected media violence to real violence directly, only knowing that it has a potential risk for aggression.
Columbine: Marilyn Manson discusses connections between violence in the media and violence in real life regarding the Columbine High massacre. He states that putting the face of the murderer on magazine covers only gives them power by letting them become a sort of role model for sociopathic children. Manson also points out that real life violence has actually decreased, we just see more of it on TV and other media sources than we ever have, making it seem to have increased. After Columbine, media sources immediately pointed the finger of blame at Manson, saying that the boys had enjoyed listening to his music and it was that which influenced them to go ahead with the killings. Manson denies this, saying there needs to be more justification than what music they enjoy.
Weinstein, Taranito and the Standoff
In the article Weinsteein, Taranito and the Standoff over movie violence. Harvey, Weinstein went on CNN with piers Morgan and vowed to back away from making ultraviolent movies. The article said Weinstein is passionate about the movie , about his company, and political causes he suppoorts. The author also said Weinstein is the guy who turned Quentin Tarantino into cultural icon and has supported his career from "Reservior Dog" to "Django unchained"and clearly begun to ask himself whether he made extreme violence hip. The article said Harvey Weinsteein and everybody else in the entertainment industry wouldn't have kept ramping up thee violence in TV movies and video game if the public didn't like it and respond to it. The research said No reputable 21st Century social scientist would claim that violence seeen in the screen leads to violence in real lifee world except for people who are Drogun Zealets looking for a scapegooat. The article also said these analaogies don't entirely fit but suspect most of us feel about media violence roughly the way we feel about harmburgers or Whiskey:Moderate does probably aren't harmful but too much is too much and it's tell where that dividing life lies.
Reaction: The Walking Dead Volume I
In The Walking Dead, the single most striking moment for me was Rick Grimes' first encounter with the zombie on the side of the road. Earlier when Rick had first woken up, he had no time to pause and think and had to keep moving in order to escape the hospital. However, that changed once he encountered the zombie laying on the ground, which was non-mobile but was able to make a few noises. After making eye contact and staring at each other for what seemed to be hours but really was just a few seconds. That was when it all hit him, the severity of the situation and the seemingly unimaginable events that were happening right in front of his eyes. Not surprisingly, it caused Rick to have a breakdown. I feel this moment set the stage for future events because it really was the point of no return, this was to be his life from now on. Later on, while on his way to Atlanta after learning of what had happened, Rick makes a stop on the side of the road and shoots the zombie that he had approached. From this scene, I believe the action symbolizes Rick's new found determination to move forward and to reunite with his family. It also shows the humanity that Rick still possesses; just as one would shoot a wounded animal to relieve them of their pain, I believe he shot the zombie with a similar intention in mind.
Summaries of Violence in the Media Articles
Violent Video Games: The Effects on Youth, and Public Policy Implications
In the article "Violent Video Games: The Effects on Youth, and Public Policy Implications," Gentil and Anderson contend that violent video games have a negative impact on youths. The article goes into further detail on the history and available research on the effects of violent video games to reinforce their argument. The beginning of violent video games can be traced back to 1976, however it wasn't until the 1990's when advances in technology led to more realism in video games and developed into the modern video games we know today. Multiple studies named in the article have come to the similar conclusion that exposure to violent video games increases aggressive behavior in individuals and decreases their level of empathy. There are many public policy options that the authors suggest, mostly intervention on the government's behalf. To conclude, violence in video games is an issue that needs to be taken more seriously in order to take steps to reduce the media violence children are exposed to.
Weinstein, Tarantino and the standoff over movie violence
In the article "Weinstein, Tarantino and the standoff over movie violence," O'Hehir describes the effects of how Harvey Weinstein blew the whistle on the violence portrayed in film. Weinstein, a prominent figure in Hollywood, declared in a CNN interview he would no longer be making any violent movies. Despite having made and promoted so many movies known for their violence, even being the one who jump started Tarantino's career. As someone in the independent film business, Weinstein is able to express his opinions and beliefs without fear of backlash. Being a liberal democrat, Weinstein is also in favor in gun control, leading O'Hehir to bring up the issue of the increase in gun ownership through the years. Weinstein also brings up the fact of how social scientists are unable to to directly connect media violence to real violence, only saying that it is a "risk factor for increased aggression." In conclusion, O'Hehir once again praises Weinstein for shining light on this subject and starting a nationwide conversation about violence in the media.
Columbine: Whose fault is it?
In the article "Columbine: Whose fault is it?" Marilyn Manson explores the relationship between media violence and real life violence as a response to the Columbine High School massacre. He criticizes how the media portrays criminals by putting them on covers and giving them notoriety. Monroe makes the point that even though real violence has decreased we still see more of it because now it can be widely broadcasted and televised. After the Columbine massacre, reporters were quick to point fingers at Monroe's apparent "influence" on the two perpetrators. Monroe defends himself by denying the allegation and points out why should we have to have a reason to justify a crime, rather than not holding the individual personally accountable. All in all Monroe questions if violence in the media is to blame and emphasizes that people should be responsible for their own actions and not put the fault on others.

The Walking Dead: Volume I
Part 1: In The Walking Dead Volume I, Morgan meets Rick Grimes who is a Police officer who just recently woke up to a world of turmoil. Morgan Explains that he is just trying to keep his boy safe. Rick understands entirely and explains he is also in a great deal of worry for his family. After visiting the Police station Rick sets of for Atlanta to search for his family. This part is essential for the story because it sets up everything that Rick stands for. He will fight and do anything to keep his family safe.
Part 2: I find this part interesting because this is where you first see into Rick and observe his character. You find out what drives Rick to stay alive and keep fighting. Family. This ties into everything because this is another form of violent media. It raises major themes of Family and loyalty. It shows you just how far someone might go to find their loved ones in times of desperation. Rick could've just forgot about his family and just chose to survive on his own. It speaks to his values and character.

Walking Dead 1
A scene that I found particularly interesting was when Glenn and Rick go in search for gun. Before Glenn's daily trip to the city, Rick talked to him about getting more guns to bring back to the camp and finding the closest gun shop. Rick had came up with the idea of making themselves smell like the zombies because Rick thinks that they are attracted to humans smell. They took pieces from an old corpse and rubbed it on their clothes. When first entering the city they were scared that their plan would not work but it ended up working so they found the gun shop and loaded up a shopping cart with as much as possible. When they started to head back to the camp it started to rain so all the smell washed off of them and the zombies started to attack them again. I thought that part was interesting because he had come up with the idea of trying to mask their smell to not attract the zombies. Glenn had kept faith in Rick's plan even though neither of them knew if it would work or not. Even in the toughest of times they kept faith in one another and trusted each other to keep safe and get back to the camp. I think its a lesson in life that everyone needs to learn.
Walking dead
I feel completely indifferent about my views on zombies after volume 1. I have never been a fan of the Walking Dead and I don't see this class changing my perspectives on zombies. To me the whole existence of something like that is just nonsense. I don't really see why people enjoy it except for the suspense maybe? Well, I'm just not a suspense kind of girl. I want to know what's going to happen. Although I am not thrilled about the whole Walking Dead thing, I really enjoy the writer's style. It feels like he is just talking to you about his interests rather than feeling like I am reading some boring book. His thoughts about the way one experience can change your whole world is totally true. We live in such a world of materialism and I can appreciate the characters having to survive with the bare minimum. Maybe people in real life need to experience things like that to realize what they really need. The answer isn't much.
Violence in the media summaries
Violent video games: This first article is obviously about the effects of playing violent games and being a violent child. The article starts out by pointing out that there are parents who are so concerned about keeping their children away from violence in the real world have no problem letting their children watch or play violent games. Violent video games have a long history starting with Death Race, released in 1976. It caused so much chaos that some communities banned it. People starting thinking that games should have less blood and violence, but saw that the games sold better if these things were included. Two senators got a hearing together to see if R rated movies were actually being rated correctly which caused a stir in the video game industry. The article goes on to explain some experimental studies about the short term studies of playing violent video games. They also did correlation studies about the long term effects of these video games. All coming to the conclusion that there was a correlation between playing these games and having violent tendencies.
Tarantino & Weinstein: This article is all about Andrew's view of such movie producers like Tarantino and Weinstein. He is completely biased in saying that he does not believe that either one of these people have created any such violence to happen in the media, in fact he says that these types of movies were bound to come around regardless of who was going to make them. He also states that violence in the media has not increased which he believes means that there is no correlation of violent movies to violent in the real world. Weinstein reflects that no one really understands the correlation between violence media and violence in real life. It comes down to the point that people just don't know if there is a true correlation. Andrew continues on by noting that these movie producers wouldn't continue to make these movies if the population didn't have such reactions to the movies.
Whose fault is it?: This article is very interesting and takes religious take to violence which I have never looked at before. It states that before there was media, people were still ready to kill. Manson goes on to seem upset, which he has every right too, when he is put at blame for killings because the children were "dressed" like him when they weren't even remotely similar to him. He says that America loves to have an icon to hang their guilt on which is totally true. Anyone who seems strikingly different becomes a scapegoat. I think Manson sees the bigger picture in our world than just violence. Such things like solving depression, car crashes and AIDS.

Violence in the media summaries
Violent Video Games- This article was written to show the connection between video games that have violence in them and violence in real life. Anderson and Gentile write about many studies proving that people that play violent video games are more prone to violence in real life. According to the statistics the boys that played the more violent video games are the kids that get into physical fights more than the girls that play the same games.
The Standoff Over Movie Violence- Henry Weinstein has always supported Quentin Tarantino's career and the violent movies he makes and began asking himself if he made violence look cool. Before Weinstein spoke out about the issue of violence he took his time to think about it and talk to other studio heads and directors about the topic who agree. He spoke out about an issue that up until that moment very got talked about in the media. It i a lot bigger of an issue not because the media produces more and more of the violence.
Columbine: Who's fault is it?- The first time people were killed they did not need books, movies, games, or music to kill, just the reason that they wanted to. When putting killers on the front of magazines you are giving them as much notice as famous people in movies and such. They glorify the crimes committed and making children getting picked on look up to them. The act of killing and crime in the world has not gotten more violent over the years it has just been more shown to the public and made in a more glorious way. The people responsible for the high school murders are everyone that are the ones that sit here and let children have guns and watch all the crimes going on around the world and in our own country. When Harris and Klebold did the crime in Colorado they were dressed similar to Marilyn Manson so the media started saying that he was the influence the boys had for doing what they did. If a person is old enough to drive a car or own a gun then that person is old enough to be held responsible for their own actions and not blame everyone else. The media continues to blame everyone except the people actually responsible for it.
The Walking Dead: Volume 1
The Walking Dead
has been watched by everybody in my family, except me. So when I heard that we
were going to read it, I was pretty intrigued as to why people love it so much. There
were many parts to the story that I found to be unnerving, such as the horse
getting eaten, wasn’t a fan of that part. The part that seemed the most
important to me was when they were sitting around the fire telling stories about
themselves, how similar each story was. That each person, no matter how
different their situation was, they each lost someone, and, in that gruesome
sense, all tied them together. This being important as showing that their losses bring them closer together as a sort of family. They can all relate to each other's pain, thus making them have a deeper relationship and connection.
The Walking Dead
The Walking Dead has been a huge deal in my family since it first came out so when I found out that we got to read the comics I was pretty excited! The part of volume 1 that I believe is most significant is when Rick and Shane are in the woods arguing and Shane points his gun at Rick. You begin to think, could this be the end of Rick so fast and then Carl shoots Shane. I think this is significant because it shows just how quickly violence can change someone. This is the first non walker killing of the whole thing and its destined to change everything. Carl shows the importance that family has in hard times like this. He had to be without his dad for a month and thought he had died so when he gets him back, he isn't going to lose him again even though Shane has been a father figure to him. On the contrary, the fact that Shane was moments away from killing Rick, this shows how much of a part betrayal is going to play throughout the series. Another thing I found interesting was the changes that the show had made. Things took off a lot quicker in the comics than in the show and its done a great job of getting me hooked!

The Walking Dead: Volume 1
I may not be a fan of these kind of stories, but this one I was a bit interested in. I liked it mostly because of the message it sent out to me, as the reader. Almost everyone in the story had lost someone to these walking dead creatures roaming the streets, so everyone had empathy for each other. That's a theme I noticed. Knowing they needed to stay sane in order to survive, they all came together as a family and loved each other, giving some hope. The part that stuck out the most to me was when the man who lost his WHOLE family to those creatures, spoke out on another girl saying how horrible it was that she died, and that she didn't deserve it; he really cared about this girl. He barley even really knew her, but yet she was like family to him. They all cared about each other and it's shown throughout this whole story.
Summary to Media Violence
Who's Fault Is It?
This article is written in Marilyn Manson's point of view. He's upset about the media always finding anyone that fits the category to blame for certain crimes that happened instead of thinking that the issue could have occurred from something else. The media constantly televise crimes, plaster criminals on magazines, and on newspaper front pages. Why couldn't their action of doing that be the reason why criminals are born. By making it big news and seem important, they embed it into people's head like it's the "in" thing to do. Everyone has a part in and this makes everyone in a way guilty. The media gives it to us to view, and then we feed into it. The addressing of this problem is way overdue, and Marilyn Manson expresses thoroughly in this article how he agrees.
Video Game Violence
This article is all about how some studies show a connection between violent video games and the actions of the people who play them. Gentile and Anderson go in depth about the studies on how violent video games are a possible reason for an increase in the player's anger and violence that happen in our world today. I honestly feel that this could be a possible reason but ultimately I feel like the blame is on the people who actually play the game. It's a person on decision to do crime, unexpected crimes happened before video games so let's not put the blame all on that. There are age ratings on games and parents should regulate the games their kids play. If the parents do play a part in helping to prevent their kids from playing these kinds of games then they are to blame. The studies have compared and found a positive relation between the two, but I don't think it's all to blame. Other things people go through in live could be the cause. Money problems, divorces, mental illnesses can all be other contributors to a child's anger. Let's not blame it on our video games people.
Tarantino Movie Violence
This article is written by Andrew O'Hehir. He writes about Tarantino and Weinstein. Weinstein doesn't like being apart of the production of violent movie, but Tarantino's love is the creative violence he puts in his movies. My question is to Weinstein is, if you don't like the movies then, what is the point of making them knowing people want to watch it. You're the one that put it out there for the media to take notice and basically sell it to the us. Action films are a popular genre that people like and most of these movies have action, which people are referring to as violence. If it's popular and you put it out there, we're going to watch it. Weinstein continues to complain that this world will never understand the media in violence if we can't agree on what violence is. A good majority of the movies include gun violence and fights and he talks about how those are the main problems. If that doesn't seem violent to us, then he wants to know what violence is. O'Hehir in a way basically agrees with him and thinks it's about time that someone said something. I agree that the problem needs to be addressed by I don't agree that it's all on the films people produce.

RESPONSE TO THE WALKING DEAD: Volume 1
I am a fan of the TV series "The Walking Dead," so my opinion will be pretty bias. That being said, in the introduction the Kirkman mentions he created the story line not for blood and gore, but to focus on the human reaction to such devastation. That was brilliant. When most people think about zombies all they picture is blood and gore, and the focus is mainly on the zombies. Kirkman, however, flips that idea and shows the complex nature of humans and what they are willing to do to survive. Having the main character (Rick) be a Sheriff is pretty awesome. He is a loyal, down to earth, good guy. Although these personality traits are usually desirable, are they enough during a zombie apocalypse? Throughout vol. 1 you see Rick handle difficult and exhausting tasks to find his family. He finally finds them and it gives him the first glimpse of hope, but that feeling doesn't last long. It is a common theme with The Walking Dead. When things are good, you can be sure that it will go from bad to worse very quickly. Between that and Kirkman focusing first on human nature, makes The Walking Dead a fascinating read.

violent video games. The effect on youth and public policy Implication.
Violent video games :Gentile and Anderson contended that violent video games have a negative impact on children. They talked about how video games leads to aggression in youth. wolfenstein 3D, enemies fell and bled on the floor . This caused a revolution in the way violent games were designed. in response to these advance in video game violence,Senator Joseph Lieberman and Herbert kohl initiated congressional hearing to examine the marketing violent games. The content in R- rated movies were being sold to children. The ESRB resulted in the video game industry agreeing to implement a voluntary ratings system.Senator Lieberman hoped that this would cause the video game industry to reduce the violent content on their games, by making them pay attention to the potential effects of the game. Violence in the Media Summaries
Violent Video Games: The Effects on Youth and Public Policy Implications
In this article, by Douglas A. Gentile and Graig A. Anderson, the main focus is violence in video games, hence the title. It's pretty much a 16 or so paged article explaining the controversies between violent video games and non violent video games and the studies they took to defend whether or not violence in video games is a contributing factor to increasing aggression and real world violence. Ratings and parents both play a huge role in this; if parents aren't watching what their kids play, then they're kids could grow up violent and if the ratings aren't correct then they could easily be giving a child a game that is not suit for that child. The studies have proved a correlation between violence in video games and real world violence, BUT many other things could be contributing factors to aggression as well, such as history of abuse, bullying or even rape. Many things could play a role in whether or not your child grows up using violent behavior, so you can't only base it of if they played video games or not.
Whose fault is it?
This piece, written by Marilyn Manson, is from his point of view on an issue that, in his opinion, has been going on for too long. The Media is creating cold-blooded killers everyday; they're making murderers famous, putting them in the spot light. He also brings up a point that everyone has someone to blame, and the media loves to point the finger and blame anyone whose around or that fits the category. The media does this bringing people in making them believe it, when really everyone is someone to blame, considering we put murderers faces on the front pages of magazines and newspapers- and create a killer just by doing that.
Weinstein, Tarantino, and the Standoff over Movie Violence
Andrew O'Hehir writes about Quentin Tarantino and his love for producing violent movies, and Harvey Weinstein, who doesn't want to continue to make violent movies, realizing that if he would't want his own kids watching his movies, then why be a hypocrite and make them for everyone else and their kids? In this article, he pretty much says we have no idea whether aggression is caused directly from seeing violence in the media. We all love watching action films, which include violence so it's like a must for the world right now. So, he also brings up a big issue regarding violence, which is guns. He says if we can't even agree that GUNS of all things are violent, then never are we all going to really know or agree that increased aggression is caused by media violence. And in O'Hehir's opinion, this whole media and aggression is an issue that was supposed to be talked about a long time ago and Weinstein finally brought it up; the "National Conversation" that was promised is now in motion.
Summary on Columbine: Whose Fault Is It?
"Columbine: Whose Fault Is It?" is an article written by Marilyn Manson who would seem, by most people, the last person to talk about aggression and violence. Manson talks about how he is saddened that the first people needed no motivation other than their own disposition of violence to kill someone. The first people he refers to is Cain and Able. He then goes on to talk about how the media now idolizes criminals by slapping them onto the front page and making them the biggest headlines like Charles Manson, Jesse James and now Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. He also talks about how he are amazed by a bomb that could kill numerous amounts of people at one time and growing up watching death happen. Manson continues by saying that media plays a huge role in making matters worse by televising funerals, interviewing parents of recently deceased children and creating scapegoats to try and put blame on others. While the media may not be directly linked to the violence being caused, many will still put blame on it.
Summary of: Columbine: Whose Fault Is It?
This article is ultimately about how we can't put blame for all of the violence in society on to the media. It's our fault. We make these people that commit these crime celebrities instead of paying attention to the victims and the victims families. We interpret everything to be bad even if the overall meaning is good. What this article is saying is that it is our fault. Not the violent entertainment.
Summary of: Weinstein, Tarantino and the standoff over movie violence
This article talks about how Harvey Weinstein "vowed to back away from ultraviolent movies". It talks about how since violence has become more prominent in media, mass shooting such as sandy hook have been more frequent. Although its hard to prove that violence in media contributes to violence in the real world, many people believe it does. The author also uses an anaology that would speak to many americans. He says that "most of us feel about media violence roughly the way we feel about hamburgers or whiskey: Moderate doses probably aren’t harmful, and may even have salubrious effects. But too much is too much, and it’s hard to tell where that dividing line lies." This article shows that although we arent 100% sure that violence in the media and violence in the real world are linked, its something that we need to pay a lot more attention to.
Summary of: Violent Video Games: The Effects on Youth, and Public Policy Implications
This article is about how as we have technological advances, there is also an increase in violent video game creation. Some studies have shown that violent video games can lead to more agressive behavior but these studies are not conclusive. There are also studies that show the positive effects of video games. They can be a great learning tool, it all just depends of the contents of the video game. There is also evidence that the amount of playing time and poor school preformance are linked but the amount of time played has almost nothing to do with aggressive behavior. There is more evidence that shows that parents dont actually look at/understand the video game rating systems that are in place; so young kids are playing games that are not apporpriate for them. This article also gives different ways to educate the public on these violent actions that children are exposed to.
