Violent video games :Gentile and Anderson contended that violent video games have a negative impact on children. They talked about how video games leads to aggression in youth. wolfenstein 3D, enemies fell and bled on the floor . This caused a revolution in the way violent games were designed. in response to these advance in video game violence,Senator Joseph Lieberman and Herbert kohl initiated congressional hearing to examine the marketing violent games. The content in R- rated movies were being sold to children. The ESRB resulted in the video game industry agreeing to implement a voluntary ratings system.Senator Lieberman hoped that this would cause the video game industry to reduce the violent content on their games, by making them pay attention to the potential effects of the game. However, the adoption of rating did not have this effects. In 1997 Senator Lieberman administered has not stopped game producer from putting out some very violent games.
Research also support and explain how/ why playing violent video game might increase aggressive behaviors in the children. Adopting a risk factor approach may be particularly beneficial when attempting to determine public policies regarding children's exposure to media violence. It also similar to the risks associated with smoking and resembles how scientist studying criminology attempt to understand the predictor of criminal behaviors .
To my own believed , most people practice what they watched or see on the social media. There should be a serious debate on how to reduce exposure of children & youths to media violence.
