Violent Video Games: The focus of this article is on violent video games and how they affect aggression and violence in society. The article states that it's very important to understand the ratings on video games, especially for parents of young children who play them. It is also important for parents to know what exactly is going on in the actual game before they let their child play it, because the ratings or description on the box may not always cover everything within the game. Some studies have shown evidence that there may be a link between violence in video games and real world violence, but it can also be attested to being in a bad home situation.
Movie Violence: In an interview on CNN, Harvey Weinstein declared a permanent end to producing violent movies. Despite having made so many in the past and helping Quentin Tarantino get his career started. Weinstein, being in the independent film business, is able to state his beliefs without having to fear negative response, says that social scientists have not connected media violence to real violence directly, only knowing that it has a potential risk for aggression.
Columbine: Marilyn Manson discusses connections between violence in the media and violence in real life regarding the Columbine High massacre. He states that putting the face of the murderer on magazine covers only gives them power by letting them become a sort of role model for sociopathic children. Manson also points out that real life violence has actually decreased, we just see more of it on TV and other media sources than we ever have, making it seem to have increased. After Columbine, media sources immediately pointed the finger of blame at Manson, saying that the boys had enjoyed listening to his music and it was that which influenced them to go ahead with the killings. Manson denies this, saying there needs to be more justification than what music they enjoy.
